Breast and Thyroid Surgery was established in December 2004 and is now a "Shenzhen Clinical Key Discipline" and "Shenzhen Thyroid Disease Prevention and Treatment Center". There are 68 beds. In 2021, the annual outpatient volume of the department will exceed 70000, 6641 patients will be discharged, and the total number of inpatient operations will be 4159, including 636 breast cancer operations and 1288 thyroid cancer operations.

The department adheres to the development and construction of disciplines, and vigorously carries out breast and thyroid laparoscopic cosmetic surgery based on the characteristics of young breast and thyroid patients in Shenzhen. We have taken the lead in carrying out "Endoscopic total mastectomy", "Endoscopic radical breast cancer mastoplasty at the same time", "Endoscopic breast conserving surgery for breast cancer", "Transoral vestibular thyroid cancer surgery", "Different approaches (breast and mouth) combined with complete endoscopic lateral lymph node dissection" in Shenzhen, ensuring a higher quality of life for patients after surgery.
In order to promote the construction of a specialized disease prevention and control system, the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission has decided to establish the "Shenzhen Thyroid Disease Prevention and Control Center" led by our department, form a thyroid disease prevention and control alliance, comprehensively enhance the prevention and treatment capabilities of thyroid diseases in Shenzhen, and form an integrated major disease prevention and control model of "prevention and health care, clinical diagnosis and treatment, and health management".
In 2017, the department introduced the "Sun Yat sen Memorial Hospital Sun Yat sen Academician Song Erwei Team" as the "Three Engineering" team. Academician Song Erwei, Professor Liu Qiang, Professor Su Fengxi, Professor Rao Nanyan, Professor Nie Yan, and others regularly came to the department to guide clinical, scientific research, and teaching work, making significant progress in the development of the discipline.

The department is the "National Thyroid Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Training Base", "Chinese Medical Association Thyroid Metabolism Group Endoscopic Center Unit", "Guangdong Province Venous Treatment Specialist Nurse Training Base", and has also led the establishment of the "Shenzhen Breast Tumor Plastic Surgery and Breast Reconstruction Alliance" with 22 units participating.
In September 2018, our department became one of the 30 monitoring and training bases for intraoperative thyroid surgery nerves in China.
In May 2019, our department became a member of the National Endoscopic Thyroid Center Alliance.
In the past five years, the department has obtained an annual average of 1.5 million scientific research funds at all levels, forming research directions such as "sentinel lymph node angiographic targeted biopsy of breast cancer", "research on new targets of breast cancer", "basic research on the growth microenvironment of breast cancer", and "molecular diagnosis and prognostic markers of thyroid cancer".
In recent years, the department has increased its efforts to attract talents, and has successively introduced several outstanding talents from Yale University, University of Michigan, and other universities in the United States. Among them, four of them have been recognized as high-level talents by the Shenzhen Municipal Government.
The department is a member of the Standing Committee of Thyroid Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Breast Disease Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association, the breast cancer Special Committee of the Guangdong Anti Cancer Association, and the deputy chairman of the Thyroid Special Committee of the Guangdong Medical Doctor Association.
